Church History

In 1897, four blocks of Crown Land were donated to the residents of Kingswood. A Sunday School Hall was built, which was planned to be developed later into a Church with a Cemetery. The Penrith General Cemetery opened however, and this plan was no longer necessary so only the Church was proceeded with.

In 1958, a new Sunday School Hall was constructed at a cost of 1600 Pounds.

Extensions to the Hall were completed in 1962 which allowed some extra hall area and storage space.

A toilet block was built in 1971 and the Church itself was redecorated in 1975. In 1976 the Curate's residence was built with Rev. John Foran the first occupant.

The new Sunday Hall was completed in 1982.

On Feb 27th, 2005, 107 years after the first building was completed, St Philips opened its new ministry centre.

Over the years, God has been pleased to use members of St Philip's, in bringing both adults and children to know and love the Lord Jesus. Lives have been transformed and God has added them to his Church. As new members are built up in their knowledge and love of God, and so learn to love one another by humbly serving one another, so God will, in turn, be pleased to use them to bring others to a saving knowledge of God in Christ, and so the body of Christ grows.
